Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey’s season is over after suffering a foot injury.
During Week 14’s matchup against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, Jeffrey went down in the second quarter. He left the field, not to return to the game.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the injury via Twitter on Thursday morning.
The Eagles have not specified the exact nature of the foot injury. But, apparently it is significant enough to end his season. Being placed on IR will also mean Jeffrey will not be able to return if Philadelphia makes the playoffs.
His 2019 has been less than impressive. On 43 receptions, Jeffrey has collected 490 yards and only four touchdowns. His best seasons came during his tenure with the Chicago Bears, when collected two 1,000 yard seasons and one double-digit touchdown campaign.
The Super Bowl 52 champion will be replaced by Robert Davis. Davis was signed off of the practice squad to fill the roster spot left by Jeffrey.
This injury particularly hurts because the Eagles are ridiculously thin at wide receiver after the injury. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside also left the Giants game with an injury, Nelson Agholor is still dealing with a knee injury, and DeSean Jackson will not return to the field.
Philadelphia will take on the Washington Redskins in Week 15 while trying to secure their spot atop the NFC East.
