Alex Smith Suffers Injury to Right Leg; Forced to Leave Game

Publish Date: December 14, 2020

Alex Smith, quarterback of the Washington Football Team, was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the San Fransico 49ers, due to an issue with his right leg.

Smith was 8 for 19 for 57 yards and had one interception. Then during the final minutes of the first half, Dwayne Haskins came onto the field as Smith walked to the locker room. Haskins remained the quarterback for the rest of the game.

Despite Smith’s absence, Washington managed to win the game 23 to 15. They also beat the then, undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers last Monday.

The injury to his leg is unknown, but Washington listed Smith as questionable shortly afterward. The same leg had been broken in two places, in an incident in 2018. The injury required 17 different surgeries and almost cost Smith his life due to an infection. Recently, fans noticed Smith’s right leg “leaking” against Pittsburgh on December 7, 2020.

“#AlexSmith leg is leaking. After all those infection-related surgeries, they need to do more than tape him up. #WASvsPIT” A fan on Twitter wrote and recorded the video

The Game Haus covered Smith’s return earlier during the season. Back in July, doctors working on Smith cleared him from rehab, which led Washington to clear the injured quarterback for play.

Fans Are Nervous About Smith

Fans from all over the NFL reacted to Smith’s injury with horror, for lack of a better term. On Twitter, one fan wrote, “Shit making me nervous and he ain’t even in red & gold but man prayers up for my guy #AlexSmith.” Another fan tweeted, “Hopefully #AlexSmith can be healthy and ready for next week’s game. #WashingtonFootball.”

Washington has yet to make an announcement on Smith’s condition or that if he will play in next week’s game.

For now, it’s assumed that Haskins will start as quarterback in next Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on December 20, 2020
