The Raiders have released a former first round draft pick. Offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood has been waived by the Raiders. Now that he is not on the team, Vegas will lose $7.9 million worth of cap space on Leatherwood.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported the news on Tuesday.
Apparently, the Raiders asked every team in the league if they were interested in a trade, but could not find a partner, so were forced to cut him. This is the third first round draft pick from the 2020 and 2021 drafts that will not be on the team anymore (Henry Ruggs III and Damon Arnette).
Leatherwood won two CFP National Championships with Alabama in college. He was the 17th overall selection of the first round in the 2021 NFL Draft. He also played and started in every single game during the 2021 season.
