After months of waiting and arguing about which team has the leverage, Aaron Rodgers has finally been traded to the Jets. Although it will take a few days before the trade is official, the deal involves both Rodgers and six picks swapped between teams.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Reportedly, the compensation is as follows; Green Bay receives pick number 13, a second round pick (42) and a sixth round pick (207) in 2023. They also collected a conditional 2024 selection. The 2024 pick is a second rounder as of now, but will elevate to a first round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent or more of the Jets’ snaps during the upcoming season. The Jets receive Aaron Rodgers, the 15th overall pick and a fifth round pick (170), both in 2023.
Rodgers is coming off of a down season, but won back-to-back MVPs in 2020 and 2021. He has four total NFL MVP awards, second to only Peyton Manning. Rodgers will wear number eight in his first season as a Jet, despite Joe Namath providing his blessing to bring down 12 from the rafters. It has also been reported that Rodgers will sign a revised contract to help the Packers with their cap space.
