Aaron Rodgers is now out for the entire 2023-2024 season after just four snaps. After being traded to the New York Jets in the 2023 offseason, Rodgers and the Jets were the story of the entire league. He was on the field for three official plays before sitting down with an apparent injury. Worst fears were confirmed the following day that his Achilles is fully torn.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news on Tuesday.
Green Bay swapped first rounders with the Jets and sent over a 2023 fifth rounder along with Rodgers. In return, the Packers got a second round pick and a sixth round pick in 2023, in addition to a 2024 second rounder that would’ve become a first if he played 65 percent of the Jets’ snaps this season. That is now impossible.
Rodgers and the Jets were featured on Hard Knocks, where it became public that he suffered a small calf injury in practice. As can tend to happen, this is likely what led to the Achilles tear on Monday Night Football. It is entirely possible that Rodgers, who turns 40 in December, may not take the field again. However, a lot of his money is tied up in him playing next season.
