Aaron Rodgers re-signs with Steelers on one-year deal

Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement on a one-year deal that will keep Rodgers in Pittsburgh.

Rodgers isn’t just reuniting with the Steelers, but also with his former head coach Mike McCarthy, who coached Rodgers for 13 years with the Green Bay Packers, which included a Super Bowl XLV victory in 2011.

Rodgers and the Steelers agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $25 million.

There had been much speculation throughout the offseason about whether Rodgers, 42, would retire or return for his 22nd season.

Rodgers has openly discussed the idea of retirement over the last couple of seasons, and there was no indication on whether he would return for his 22nd NFL season until today.

Longtime Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s departure at the end of the season left things even more unclear for Rodgers, but the Steelers’ hiring of McCarthy was enough for Rodgers and the team to come to an agreement.

The Pittsburgh Steelers also acquired wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. over the offseason. He signed a three-year, $59 million contract with the team and will surely become a top target for Rodgers this season.

In Rodgers’ first season with the Steelers last year, he threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Adam Schefter also reported that Aaron Rodgers is expected to attend the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason practice sessions which begin on Monday.
