Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones avoided a major, season-ending injury. Instead, he suffered what is being called a mild MCL sprain. He will be sidelined 1-2 weeks and avoid a stint on the injured reserve.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
#Packers RB Aaron Jones was found to have a mild MCL sprain after his MRI, source said, which mean he’s out 1-2 weeks. Relatively good news overall.

Jones, who was a fifth round pick out of UTEP in 2017, was a co-leader in most touchdowns scored in 2019 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2020. In 10 games in 2021, he has scored three touchdowns on 123 rushes, racking up 541 yards on the way there. He also has 298 yards and four touchdowns through the air on 37 catches.
Sophomore back A.J. Dillon has been taking some of Jones’ work, including in goal line situations. The two-headed attack is a knock on Jones’ workhorse running back status, but advised to keep them both fresh for an inevitable playoff run. Now, Dillon will take most of the snaps while Patrick Taylor, their third-string back will fill in.
