The NFL Trade Deadline is within a week, which means some key players will be on the move. One of the players who has been involved in trade rumors is Takkarist McKinley of the Atlanta Falcons. Here are the five potential trade destinations for Takkarist McKinley.
1. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have a great defense, but could stand to get more pressure on opposing quarterbacks. They have 13 sacks so far this season, which ranks in the middle of the league. With a better pass rusher on their roster, their defense could become even better.
McKinley would line up across from Justin Houston to give the Colts two solid pass rushers. Houston is getting older, so if the Colts wanted to, they could have McKinley help them for this season and into the future. The Colts have a chance to make the playoffs, so they should make moves to help ensure they can compete.
2. Tennessee Titans
The Titans signed Jadeveon Clowney to help with their pass rush. Unfortunately, the results haven’t exactly added up. Clowney has no sacks on the year, while Harold Landry on the other side of the line has had a little more success with 1.5 sacks, but if the Titans want to really compete this year, they need some help in the pass rushing department.
Adding McKinley would at least take some of the attention off of the Titans’ other pass rushers. If he, or Clowney, could draw some double teams, someone else on the defense could get to the quarterback. McKinley and Clowney’s stats both could improve with his addition, which would only help the Titans reach their goals.
3. New England Patriots
New England seems like they might be selling at the deadline, but they could still turn things around and make the playoffs. If they choose to try and compete, they should add pass rushers. The Patriots have just nine sacks on the year, which isn’t good enough if they want to make the playoffs.
Chase Winovich has played solidly with 2.5 sacks, but across from him, there hasn’t been the same production. Adding McKinley would give the Patriots two capable pass rushers to work with, which could help turn the tide for their defense.
4. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have some young pass rushers, but they haven’t tallied many sacks yet this year. The team has just seven sacks, which means that they aren’t getting production from Maxx Crosby, Clelin Ferrell and Arden Key. Adding another pass rusher could help all of them to produce more.
While adding McKinley would take away playing time from their young pass rushers, if the Raiders want to make the playoffs, they need to start taking down the quarterback. McKinley could be had relatively cheaply to help the Raiders make their playoff push.
5. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle has already tried to address their pass rushing situation with the acquisition of Carlos Dunlap. That may not be enough, as Dunlap was benched in Cincinnati and had just one sack on the season. They could trade for McKinley and hope that both pan out.
If Dunlap doesn’t start producing or if Shaquem Griffin doesn’t, McKinley can step in and start for the Seahawks. The Seahawks will be competing for a Super Bowl this year, but unlike the last time they were in the big game, they don’t have a good defense. Trading for McKinley would be a step in the right direction.
