5 Potential Trade Destinations for DeSean Jackson

Publish Date: October 29, 2021

DeSean Jackson and the Los Angeles Rams have mutually agreed to seek a trade for the wide receiver. Here are the five potential trade destinations for DeSean Jackson.

1. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have kept themselves in the playoff race. They currently have a 3-4 record and are in contention to make a run at a wildcard spot. That is impressive given that they are starting a rookie quarterback in Mac Jones. What makes it even more impressive is that the Patriots don’t have great wide receivers.

Currently, the top three receivers for the Patriots are Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers. Jackson would be an immediate upgrade, even at his age. His ability to stretch the field could help the short-passing game and running game. The Patriots likely wouldn’t have to give up too much to acquire Jackson because of his age, which makes a deal likely if they want him.

2. Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis had a tough schedule to start the season, but they worked their way back to a 3-4 record. They have been doing so even though they rank 22nd in passing yards on the season. There have been plenty of injuries to their wide receivers, which has limited their ability in the passing game.

To start the year, T.Y. Hilton missed time with a neck injury. He returned for week 6 against the Houston Texans, but missed another game with a quad injury. He is expected back, but Parris Campbell had a significant foot injury. With all of the injuries, it would be wise for the Colts to try and get a wide receiver to go across from Michael Pittman. Jackson or Hilton could move into the slot when Hilton is healthy.

3. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay won their Thursday night matchup against the Arizona Cardinals to extend their winning streak to seven games. They look to be one of the favorites for the Super Bowl out of the NFC. The Packers have done so even without the best weapons for Aaron Rodgers to utilize. That could put them in the market for a wide receiver at the trade deadline.

Before Thursday, the Packers didn’t have the most talent at wide receiver behind Davante Adams. With Adams, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling out for the game against the Cardinals due to COVID protocols, the Packers suffered another blow when tight end Robert Tonyan was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Randall Cobb stepped up, but more weapons were needed before injuries. Jackson’s speed could help open things up for the rest of the offense.

4. New Orleans Saints

New Orleans has turned the chapter from Drew Brees to Jameis Winston. Things have gone solidly, as the Saints have a 4-2 record. They have relied on their running game and defense to win games though, as they only average 176.2 passing yards per game. If the Saints want to really contend, they will need to pass the ball more.

From the start of the season, Michael Thomas has been out after having ankle surgery in July. There was some friction between the team and Thomas and now there isn’t an indication of whether Thomas will suit up for the Saints again. New Orleans has Marquez Callaway, Tre’Quan Smith and Deonte Harris, but their play has been inconsistent. While Jackson wouldn’t be the number one receiver that Thomas is, he could help with the production at the wide receiver position.

5. Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City has had a run of success the last few seasons, but they have struggled this year. Their offense has turned the ball over too much and the defense has struggled. After building their team on speed, they could be in the market for Jackson.

For the Chiefs, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill have both produced. Behind them, the offensive playmakers have left a lot to be desired. Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson have all failed to truly step up as a second wide receiver. Jackson could be a second or third receiver for a good team. His presence could take away some of the attention that is currently being given to Kelce and Hill. The Chiefs will likely rebound soon and the acquisition of Jackson could help them.
