The Arizona Cardinals have released wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, making him a free agent. Here are five potential landing spots for DeAndre Hopkins.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
At this point in his career, Hopkins likely wants to win a title. The Chiefs have been without a number one receiver since Tyreek Hill was sent to Miami. He could step right into the top receiver spot given their depth and his talent.
The Chiefs will be looking to repeat as champions this upcoming season. Travis Kelce is the number one option for Patrick Mahomes, but having another talented pass-catcher like Hopkins could really open up the offense and give them more firepower.
2. Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys were projected to get a receiver early in the draft, but decided to address their needs at defense and tight end. This leaves a few question marks at the receiver position. Hopkins can be a successful number two option behind CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys.
There was a rumored “splash” coming for the Cowboys this offseason, that never materialized. Signing Hopkins could be that big move that the Cowboys were referring to earlier this offseason. He could lineup along with Lamb and newly acquired Brandin Cooks who would combine to give them one of the best wide receiver rooms in the sport.
3. New England Patriots
Jakobi Myers left New England for Las Vegas and the Patriots signed JuJu Smith-Schuster to replace him. The Patriots still need more at the position as they have neglected it for far too long. With Hopkins joining the fold, it would give their young quarterbacks a few veteran options to utilize.
The Patriots were able to stay in playoff contention until late last season due to their running game and defense. If they want to get into contention, they will need to pass the ball better and with young unproven quarterbacks, the best thing they can do is adding experienced, talented receivers like Hopkins.
4. Buffalo Bills
The Bills are hunting for their first Super Bowl and Hopkins can help them get there. Stefon Diggs is already there and another weapon was drafted in tight end Dalton Kincaid, but the Bills could benefit from getting more help on the outside.
Hopkins can provide a good number two receiver to Diggs. Behind Diggs, the Bills currently have Gabe Davis and Deonte Harty, so with the addition of Hopkins, Davis or he could move into the slot. If the Bills want the best shot to win the Super Bowl they need to make an offer to Hopkins.
5. New York Giants
The Giants were able to make the playoffs last season after plenty of their receivers went down with injuries. If they want to make it back to the playoffs, it would be advantageous to add another proven receiver. Hopkins would be a step above what they currently have at the position.
Sterling Shepard returns as a solid option for Daniel Jones. Parris Campbell was added, but has been unable to stay healthy throughout his NFL career. Wan’Dale Robinson suffered injuries during his rookie year. Jalin Hyatt was drafted, but may just be a deep threat. The Giants could really improve their offense by adding Hopkins if they think he can still be a true number one receiver.
