The Commanders have sold off another big piece of their defense shortly after trading Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears. The 49ers have reportedly acquired former number two overall pick Chase Young for a third-rounder in 2024.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Halloween.
After being taken with the second overall selection in 2020, Young played in 15 games, collecting 7.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and 44 combined tackles. He not only made a Pro Bowl that year, but was selected as AP’s Defensive Rookie of the Year.
His next two seasons were cut short due to injuries. Young played nine games in 2021 and just three in 2022. So far this year, he’s played in seven games (six starts), collected five sacks, 15 combined tackles and one defended pass.
