The Rams have already been active in trades this year, as they have acquired Jalen Ramsey. Now, they will reportedly be looking to trade veterans, including cornerback Aqib Talib, in order to have enough money to sign Ramsey to an extension. Here are 4 potential trade destinations for Aqib Talib.
Philadelphia’s secondary has played better in recent weeks, but if the team wants to compete, they are going to need more help at the backend of their defense. They were reportedly interested in Jalen Ramsey and missed out. The Eagles are now trying to acquire Darius Slay according to reports. They are definitely in the market for a corner before the deadline on Tuesday.
Slay may take more to get because he is young, but Talib is aging. While that isn’t the greatest in terms of what they can expect in return long-term, Talib’s price should be significantly less than Slay and other talented cornerbacks on the market. The Eagles would likely be willing to part with a mid-round pick for Talib and the Rams would as well to get his salary off the books.
Kansas City just lost a tough one to the Packers. If they had Patrick Mahomes healthy, it might’ve been a different game. The Chiefs should still know following this weekend’s game that they won’t win a Super Bowl unless something changes on their defense. Talib likely won’t be a star, but his presence on the defense could help them out vastly.
In the playoffs, when the Chiefs play great quarterbacks and teams with great receivers, the likes of Charvarius Ward and Bashaud Breeland won’t likely have answers, which will put pressure on the offense to produce. Talib would be an immediate upgrade, but will have to join the team late in the season as he is only eligible to come off of IR for the last two games of the regular season.
San Francisco has already improved their offense before the trade deadline with the acquisition of Emmanuel Sanders. With the team being undefeated so far this season, they should make a play for a corner as well. Any team undefeated in the NFL this late in the season is capable of winning it all and a trade for Talib would help them achieve that.
Richard Sherman is still playing well at corner for the 49ers, but the other corners on the team could be upgraded. While Emmanuel Moseley and K’Waun Williams have played decently that may not last. A trade within the division would be tough, but the Rams have to get Talib, or other veterans, off the team before signing Ramsey to a long-term deal.
The Texans traded a third-round draft pick to the Raiders for Gareon Conley to help improve their putrid pass defense. More can be done to upgrade the position though, and they’ll need to have better coverage to go deep in the playoffs. J.J. Watt is out for the season, so corners will have to stay attached to their man for longer.
Houston has already traded away a lot of draft capital, but it may not take as much to get Talib given his age and the position the Rams are in. If the Texans can get him for a mid-round pick, it would be worth it to take a chance at winning the Super Bowl.BIll O’Brien said there was a slim chance a move would be made before the deadline, but a deal to get a player like Talib for cheap could entice him.
