The New York Giants have fired head coach Joe Judge. He was one of the many casualties that followed the final week of the 2021-2022 season, along with Mike Zimmer, Brian Flores and others. Judge was the head coach of the Giants for just two seasons, amassing a record of 10-23. These poor showings continued to contribute to the New York Giants having the third-worst record in the NFL since 2016 at 33-64 through 97 total games.
In short, the Giants need a home run hire to pull this franchise out from the cellar of the NFL. Here are three potential head coach candidates for the New York Giants.
Brian Flores
Brian Flores was the most surprising firing of the 2021-2022 season. He was let go after posting a 24-25 record over three years with the Dolphins. Almost going .500 with a rebuilding team in only three seasons is not easy. In fact, Flores won five games with what some thought would be the worst roster in NFL history in 2019. He also became the first head coach in history to win seven games in a row after losing seven games in a row.
Flores demands respect and is an extremely demanding coach. But players in Miami gravitated toward that and played hard for him. After Judge’s shaky press conferences and punishing practices, the Giants may need a different form of tough love. If Flores ends up in New York and polishes up that already decent defense, they could be NFC East contenders in no time.
Kellen Moore
There may be nothing sweeter than stealing your next head coach from a rival organization when it comes to the hiring process.
Moore is one of the hottest names on the market this offseason, and has the resume and youthful presence to boot. He is in charge of one of the most dangerous (at times) offenses in the NFL with the Cowboys and he would have almost as many weapons to work with in New York. Barkley, Toney, Golladay, Shepard and more should all perform better under an offensive guy like Moore. Plus, he was a quarterback in the league, which may be what Daniel Jones needs in a coach.
Eric Bieniemy
If Bieniemy finally gets a job, it would be courteous of him to exit not only the Chiefs’ division, but their conference altogether. The Giants could provide that very courtesy.
Bieniemy is used to winning in Kansas City, and could continue to do that with this New York Giants roster. Sure, there are holes, but the weapons here are undeniable. And, it is an extremely winnable division, as we saw in 2020. Heat seems to be dying down under his name, due to him perhaps being happy to stay in Kansas City, but this is a big job in the biggest market that has to be at least a little enticing.
