The Carolina Panthers are reportedly beginning to field trade calls for multiple players after a bad start to the 2022-2023 season. Donte Jackson is one of those trade block players after Carolina earned a 1-4 record through five weeks and fired their head coach and defensive coordinator.
As the league becomes more and more pass oriented, cornerbacks like Jackson become more valuable. Here are three possible trade destinations for Donte Jackson.
The Vikings are 5-1, with their only loss coming to the only undefeated team remaining after six weeks. They haven’t played great competition, but still have allowed the third-most passing yards in the NFL and almost eight yards per pass (second-worst in the league).
If Minnesota wants to win the NFC North and take the next step by winning multiple playoff games, the back end of the defense needs to be shored up and shown some leadership. Jackson could be the guy to do just that, considering they will face some high-powered offenses if/when they do reach the playoffs.
This may seem like an unlikely destination for Jackson, due to the Falcons generally being seen as a team without playoff aspirations. But they own the same record as the Buccaneers, who don’t seem to be putting things together. This division is up for grabs through six weeks.
Atlanta has allowed 1,687 passing yards so far this season; the most in the entire NFL. Their seven yards per catch average is bottom 10 in the league and they have already allowed 10 passing touchdowns. Jackson may come at a cheaper cost than some of the other names that might be shopped at the trade deadline, so this is not only a move that will help the team, but makes sense economically.
The Ravens are slowly becoming one of the most perennially injured teams in the NFL. The loss of Kyle Fuller for the season was a huge blow to the back end of this defense, and it has cost them. Baltimore has lost three games this season after being up 10 or more in the second half. Some of that is due to their lack of pass defense.
If the Ravens want to keep up in the playoffs, they are going to need some kind of respectable replacement for Fuller. Especially if Marcus Peters gets injured again. Jackson may not sound like a top-flight name, but defensive coaches like Harbaugh will most certainly get the most out of a player like him.
