The Steelers are discussing potential trade packages for one of their best wide receivers. Chase Claypool is reportedly on the trade block as the team has started 2-4, with their only two wins coming in overtime as the Bengals missed multiple kicks and against an injured Buccaneers team.
There are multiple teams that could benefit from a wideout like Claypool. Here are three possible trade destinations for Chase Claypool.
The Packers are in desperate need of another reliable wide receiver. Allen Lazard is their current WR1, but hasn’t showed the speed it takes to become a real threat in this league. Veterans Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins are both injured. Rookies Romeo Doubz and Christian Watson (who’s also been injured) can’t seem to get on the same page with Aaron Rodgers. 2021’s third round pick Amari Rodgers has been all but a bust, and is currently serving as their return man with no real role in the offense.
Green Bay’s running game is still formidable, but has been stymied mostly due to strange coaching decisions and the fact that the passing game is so anemic that there is no real threat to the opposing defense stacking the box. If this team is going to make the playoffs, a move needs to be made for a playmaking receiver. Claypool could be that guy if he and Rodgers click on the field.
The Rams’ entire offense so far in 2022 has been throwing the ball to Cooper Kupp, whether he’s open or not, and hoping he can make a play. They have sprinkled in some Ben Skowronek and Tyler Higbee, but to no real avail.
Allen Robinson’s signing was supposed to be another boon to what was an already impressive offense, but he hasn’t played well. Los Angeles’ decision to not re-sign Odell Beckham, Jr. right away may come back to bite them, as he has all but said that the team had their chance. They need someone to take the coverage away from Kupp. Claypool is talented enough to do that, or capitalize if the defense refuses to stop covering Kupp regardless.
This one is a bit trickier, as the Ravens will almost certainly have to pay a higher price for Claypool due to them residing in the same division as the Steelers. But, if they are willing to pay handsomely, it could provide him with extra motivation to stand out as Baltimore plays his old team twice.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson has never had a top-flight receiver. Marquise Brown showed flashes of that, but was traded away to the Cardinals on draft night. Devin Duvernay is a boom-or-bust guy and Rashod Bateman is injured. A reliable receiver opens up this offense and Jackson’s running prowess to the nth degree.
