The Carolina Panthers are ready to field some trade calls for their best players after an inauspicious start to the 2022-2023 season. Edge rusher Brian Burns is one of the Panthers on the trade block who will likely garner some high draft picks if he is sent to another team.
A Pro Bowl defensive end and former first round selection could be a huge boon to a defense in lack of a great pass rusher. Here are three possible trade destinations for Brian Burns.
The Eagles are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL, and rightfully so. They are using an intriguing and balanced offense and, defensively, taking the ball away with regularity while also refusing to give it back (plus-12 turnover ratio).
Trading for Burns could be the move the Eagles make to take the team from a surprising story to a truly scary Super Bowl contender. Philadelphia has 15 sacks on the year, which is a fine number, but Burns had nine in 2020 and 2021. He already has four sacks this season through six games. If they commit to their 2022 run this way, then the NFC easily has a new frontrunner.
Much was made about the Chiefs losing Tyreek Hill in the offseason, and whether or not the offense would still be as explosive. That remains to be seen, but, for now, Kansas City looks fine. The defense, however, has taken a step forward.
Their first round pick George Karlaftis has been solid, and Frank Clark continues to be a force in the middle of that defensive line. But adding Burns to the mix would open up some very threatening pass-rushing scenarios. They are going to need that kind of firepower to beat the Bengals and the Bills in the playoffs, so don’t be surprised if Kansas City gives up a lot if they decide they want him.
Much like the Seahawks (who don’t appear on this list despite playing decently well this season), never underestimate the Ravens’ willingness to add a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball. Burns may be no exception for defensively-minded head coach John Harbaugh.
Draft pick David Ojabo (out of Texas) is trying to come back from an Achilles tear, but a rookie coming off of injury may not produce the sack numbers the Ravens want, even if he does play. Burns, however, would fit like a glove at the end of this defensive line. Baltimore loves to get after the quarterback, at which Burns excels. Like the Chiefs, they would love to have this piece for their playoff run.
