3 Possible Landing Spots for Kareem Hunt

Publish Date: August 8, 2022

Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt has reportedly requested a trade away from the team. The Browns have denied his request from a trade, but with the cat out of the bag, so to speak, that may not remain the case for the entire 2022-2023 season. Here is a look at three possible trade destinations for Kareem Hunt, if his trade request is met.

Los Angeles Rams

Much like the Dodgers, the Los Angeles Rams have to be listed as a possible trade/free agency destination for every middle-to-big name player that wants to be on a new team. This is the way these two teams have been conducting business as of late; i.e. create their sports’ version of the Avengers and worry about the bill later.

The Rams’ salary cap seems to not really exist as they keep signing and re-signing player after player. They just won the Super Bowl and have committed to going all-in for a back-to-back bid. Allen Robinson, Aaron Donald and a litany of others have been given new deals in this offseason. Make no mistake, the Rams can find a way to get this deal done despite paying all of these new players and having next to no valuable picks.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers currently have six running backs on their payroll. Their lead back is Austin Ekeler without a doubt, but he has dealt with injuries lately and Joshua Kelley is a bit of a steep drop off as their RB2. Picking up a combo speedster/bruiser like Kareem Hunt to backup Ekeler and be an insurance policy would be a home run.

Frankly, the Chargers are trying desperately to not be forgotten in Los Angeles as the Rams continue to stockpile talent after their championship. They have already grabbed Khalil Mack, Zion Johnson and J.C. Jackson in the offseason to try and return to the playoffs. A backup of Hunt’s caliber will help immensely in the toughest division in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs

Hunt spent the first two years of his career with the Chiefs after being drafted by them in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was released by Kansas City after video of him physically assaulting a woman surfaced and picked up by the Browns.

Now that outrage about that has, seemingly, died down a bit, the Chiefs may want to take another swing at the 27-year-old back. Kansas City has lost some talent in Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu in the offseason and needs some talent infusion to keep pace in the AFC West. A trade like this could lead to a bit more freedom in the offense, as a heavier run game will take some focus away from Travis Kelce. If they want to do this, it has multiple upsides.
