The Eagles now have their 53-man roster and are ready to move towards the 2021 regular season. A couple of noticeable players that did make the main roster are Kenny Gainwell, DeVonta Smith, Jack Stoll, Zech McPhearson and Tyree Jackson. Jackson got injured during the preseason but he showed enough in the playing time he had to make the team. McPhearson racked up a lot of tackles during the preseason, but quarterbacks targeted him a lot and he gave up plenty of catches. These rookie players definitely took some spots from some players who were on an NFL roster last year. This article will take a look at three noticeable players that did not make the 2021 Eagles main roster but are on the practice squad.
Jordan Howard
Jordan Howard, who is an NFL veteran, did not make the 53-man roster. He is currently one of the 16 players on the Eagles practice squad. The Eagles running back has not shown the kind of production he used to in earlier years in the NFL. Howard is a bruising running back that is strong and hard to bring down. His first two seasons in the NFL were 1,000-yard rushing years that immediately brought him into the NFL spotlight.
The veteran running back dropped off in production during his stint with the Eagles in 2019. In 2020, he had an even worse year with the Dolphins and the Eagles. He was not in the best shape during the 2020 season. Howard did, however, Â show this preseason that he is in better shape and his running looked better than it did in 2020. His problem was that Kenny Gainwell looked really good and brought the Eagles’ production in the running and passing game throughout the preseason. Howard could be on the main roster during the season if one of the running backs is injured or is just not producing.
Travis Fulgham
Wide receiver Travis Fulgham who has a year under his belt on the main roster is another player who noticeably did not make the main roster. Fulgham, who is a former Old Dominion product, was drafted in the 6th round by the Lions in 2019, before going to the Eagles. The Eagles receiver has length and can make spectacular catches over defenders. Fulgham also has a lot of speed.
He made some noise at the beginning of the 2020 season as he was giving the Eagles a lot of much-needed production at the wide receiver position. This did not last during the middle to the end of the season though. Fulgham could not seem to get open and dropped a lot of catchable balls. He ended the season with 539 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Fulgham’s name was noticeably not called a lot during the three preseason games, which is why he did not land on the main roster.
Michael Jacquet
Eagles cornerback Michael Jacquet is another player who made the Eagles practice squad. He got a noticeable amount of playing time in his three preseason games with the Eagles. Jacquet had 17 solo tackles during the preseason and one forced fumble. Jacquet can fly around the field and was usually a factor in a lot of plays in the preseason. His issue was that he did not break up a lot of passes in coverage. He had 11 targets during the preseason and opponents caught nine of those targets. If that number was a little better then he could be on the main roster right now. Do not count this cornerback out though, he is still young and has a lot to learn in the NFL. It’s highly likely that we will see him in the regular season this year once he polishes his game on the practice squad. These were three noticeable Eagles players that are on the practice squad in 2021.
