Zach Tom 2022 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 26, 2022

The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Zach Tom 2022 NFL Draft Profile.

Zach Tom Background

Position: Offensive Guard/Center

Size: 6-foot-4, 304 pounds

Class: Redshirt Senior

2021 stats: All-ACC First Team

Tom played multiple positions at Wake Forest and developed well in Winston-Salem. He is now headed to the 2022 NFL Draft.

Out of Louisiana, Tom was a three-star recruit, who signed on with Wake Forest. He redshirted in his first season, then played sparingly as a redshirt freshman. Tom jumped into a starting role at center in 2019 and helped the Demon Deacons go 8-5. In 2020, he moved to left tackle and the team went 4-5. He stayed at left tackle in 2021 and was named to the All-ACC First Team. The Demon Deacons went 11-3 with Tom’s help.

Following a great career that saw him play two different positions, Tom is moving on. He is projected to be a second to fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Zach Tom Strengths

Tom is a good athlete for the center position. He proved that when he was on an island at left tackle in college. Tom has good movement abilities, as he has good burst at the snap of the ball and can get to the second level well. He has solid body control and with everything considered, is one of the most athletic interior linemen in the class.

His football IQ is also very high. He showed that with his ability to play multiple positions, but he also understands where pressure is coming. Tom can pass off on stunts and twists. He picks up extra work when he can as well.

He is good in pass protection for an interior player. Tom was a good pass protector at left tackle and will bring that experience back to the center position. He shows good footwork and stays in front of his man. Tom gave up few pressures in college and should be able to be successful in the NFL.

Zach Tom Weaknesses

Tom can add more strength to his game to become a more complete player. He struggles with power, which could be a bigger problem on the interior. If he fills out his frame, he can handle the bigger interior players when they try to bull rush him.

Right now, Tom is a better pass blocker than run blocker. He needs to sustain blockers better and move his man better. Adding strength will help with this, but he needs to show better technique to drive his man off the line of scrimmage too.

While he blocks well, Tom can finish plays better. Tom can sustain blocks longer with more effort.  He needs to play through the whistle and make sure he sets the tone. With a little nastier demeanor, Tom can achieve better finishing ability.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
