The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Will Johnson NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Cornerback
School: Michigan
Size: 6-foot-2, 194 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 14 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended, 2 touchdowns
Johnson was a four-star recruit in the class of 2022 who stayed in his home state of Michigan to play for the Wolverines. He immediately made an impact for the team, registering 27 total tackles, three interceptions and three passes defended as a freshman. His play helped Michigan win 13 games and make the National Championship Game. In 2023, Johnson led Michigan to a national championship by totaling 27 total tackles, four interceptions and four passes defended. He played in six games during the 2024 season, while battling injuries. He had 14 total tackles, two interceptions and three passes defended.
Following the season, Johnson declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently a projected first-round pick.
Johnson has good size for an outside corner at the NFL level. He stands at 6-foot-2 and 194 pounds. Johnson appears to have room to fill out his frame even more at the NFL level to add to his play strength. His arms measure over 30 inches as well. Johnson has the size to match up with bigger receivers at the NFL level.
His awareness and route recognition are great as well. Johnson does a good job of using his eyes in zone coverage and has good balance between the receiver and the quarterback. He can see what routes receivers are running and then jump the route. Johnson knows how wide receivers will attack him and uses that to his advantage.
Over the course of his career, Johnson showed good ball skills. He tracks the ball well in the air and is able to attack the catchpoint well. Johnson has good hands and is able to come down with his fair of interceptions, but can break up passes if he can’t catch it. With the ball in his hands, Johnson is a threat to take it back to the house, as he had two touchdowns in 2024 in just six games played.
Johnson is a good athlete, but doesn’t have the greatest speed for an NFL corner. He can struggle to keep up with the faster wide receivers. Johnson will have to rely on his technique and awareness to keep up with certain NFL receivers. If receivers get a step on him, Johnson also has struggles with recovery speed to catch up.
In college, Johnson was a little physical with his coverage. He was able to get away with it for the most part in college, but he will be flagged more in the NFL. Instead of grabbing, Johnson needs to trust his technique and keep his hands off. Penalties could come more often at the NFL level.
There are times when Johnson can struggle with refined route runners. When they change direction, he can take an extra second to adjust, which is a product of him being a taller corner. This can specifically give him problems with receivers who excel at making double moves.
