Position: Quarterback
School: Alabama
Size: 6-foot-1, 211 Pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2025 stats: 3,567 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 64.5 percent completion, 7.5 yards per attempt, 93 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns
Simpson was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022 who signed with Alabama out of Tennessee. In his first three seasons at Alabama, he sat behind Jalen Milroe, only getting mop up duty. He won the quarterback battle at Alabama prior to the 2025 season and impressed. Simpson finished the 2025 season with 3,567 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions on 64.5 percent completion. His play helped Alabama make the CFP and win a game.
After the CFP exit, Simpson declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Simpson has good accuracy, specifically to the short and intermediate areas of the field. He can make short throws while leaving plenty of room for receivers to run after the catch. Simpson is specifically impressive at throwing to the second level, finding holes to throw in right out of the reach of linebackers. He has some deep accuracy, but that is less consistent than how efficient he is on the first two levels of a defense.
He makes great decisions with the football and protects it. Simpson threw five interceptions in 2025. He is able to go through his progressions decently and find the open man. He sees the field pretty clearly and doesn’t put the ball in harm’s way. When he puts the ball in the air, he gives his guy a chance to make a play, but not the defenders.
While he won’t have arm strength that is near the top of the league, he has solid arm talent. Simpson should have the ability to make most throws at a pro level. He can get zip on his passes to fit the ball into tight windows, but he can also attack downfield and stretch the field vertically.
Simpson is a smaller quarterback for the NFL level. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 211 pounds, which will make him one of the smaller quarterbacks. His durability will come into question and he played hurt down the stretch at Alabama. He can add some more muscle to help with durability. His passes are more likely to get batted down at the line of scrimmage.
He is just an average athlete for the position and won’t make too many plays out of structure. Simpson can move around in the pocket, but can struggle to make plays outside of it. Teams will want to have an offense that doesn’t utilize his legs very much, because he isn’t the greatest mover and it will prevent injury.
While he played with some polish, Simpson was just a one-year starter at the college level. He seemed to lose steam down the stretch of the college season and could use some more polishing before being thrown into the NFL. Simpson simply needs more reps to really see what his potential can be one way or the other.
