The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Cornerback
School: TCU
Size: 5-foot-8, 178 pounds
Class: Senior
2022 Stats: 50 total tackles, 3 interceptions, 15 passes defended, 1 forced fumble
Hodges-Tomlinson had plenty of experience at TCU and helped bring them to national prominence in 2022. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a three-star prospect out of Texas, Hodges-Tomlinson signed with TCU and followed in his uncle, Ladainian Tomlinson’s footsteps. He played sparingly in his first year on campus, registering eight total tackles and one pass defended. His role increased in 2020, when he tallied 26 total tackles and 13 passes defended. He helped the Horned Frogs go 6-4 that season. In 2021, Hodges-Tomlinson had 41 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended. TCU ended up finishing with a 5-7 record. For the 2022 season, Hodges-Tomlinson had 50 total tackles, three interceptions and 15 passes defended. He led the Horned Frogs to the National Championship Game to conclude his college career.
Following the National Championship Game, Hodges-Tomlinson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
Hodges-Tomlinson has great ball skills, which led to good production. He has good anticipation and is able to read quarterbacks to jump routes well. Hodges-Tomlinson tracks the ball well and attacks the catch point aggressively to make plays on the ball. He is capable coming away with passes defended and interceptions. Once the ball is in his hands he is a threat to return it.
He is a very good athlete for the position. Hodges-Tomlinson has good long speed to match up with receivers vertically. He also has good quickness and agility to help him mirror receivers as they are running their route. Athletically, he is able to match other NFL athletes.
For his size, Hodges-Tomlinson is a good tackler and solid in run support. He flies downhill and makes hits on much bigger players aggressively. His size gives him some limitations sheding blocks, but he has the mindset and athleticism to help against the run.
Hodges-Tomlinson is one of the smaller cornerbacks in the draft class. He stands at 5-foot-8 and 178 pounds. His arm length also falls below the NFL average at 29 inches. This makes it tough for him to match up with bigger receivers and shed blocks. Hodges-Tomlinson may be moved into the slot in the NFL because of his height.
While he has good ball skills because of anticipation, Hodges-Tomlinson can improve in this area. He needs to have better route recognition and better eye balance between the quarterback and the receiver. Improving this will help his ball production even more.
He is a good athlete, but some of his movements are inefficient because he doesn’t have great technique. Hodges-Tomlinson needs to stay low during his backpedal and needs to make sure his footwork stays clean. Cleaning up some of his technique should help him move even better.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third-Round Pick
