The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Shemar Stewart NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Edge Rusher
School: Texas A&M
Size: 6-foot-5, 267 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 31 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble
Stewart was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022, who joined Texas A&M out of Florida. He played early in his career, recording 23 total tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His play helped Texas A&M win five games. In 2023, he registered 11 total tackles, two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Texas A&M improved to seven wins that season. For the 2024 season, he tallied 31 total tackles, six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He led the Aggies to an eight-win season.
Following the season, Stewart declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Stewart has good size for an NFL edge rusher, standing at 6-foot-5 and 267 pounds. His size gives him good strength and powerful hands, which he uses to his advantage. In addition to his size and length, Stewart has great length too, with arms measuring in over 34 inches. He is able to deconstruct and shed better because of his length and strength.
For his size, Stewart is an elite athlete. He has a quick first step at the snap, which shows his acceleration and timing. This quick first step gives him an edge on the play over interior offensive linemen. He can convert that quickness into speed, but also has nice agility to change directions well. Stewart has the flexibility to bend and get around the edge on tackles as well.
His run defense should hold up at the NFL level. Stewart has the ability to deconstruct blocks and shed well by using his hands, strength and length. His heavy hands can help pack a punch. When he sheds, he shows good pursuit of ball carriers and has the athleticism to make plays downfield.
His sack production wasn’t the greatest at the college level. He had 4.5 sacks in his career and just 1.5 per season during his time at Texas A&M. The potential is there, but Stewart needs to show he can finish plays off. He can generate pressure and be disruptive, but needs to finish plays and up his sack production at the next level to really stand out.
While he has a decent number of pass rush moves and counters, his pass rush plan could be better. He doesn’t always go in with the best plan to attack an offensive lineman. On top of that, he needs to show that he can use the right pass rush moves and counters in the moment when he reads what an offensive lineman is doing to him.
Stewart loses leverage too often, which results in a loss of his natural power. He can stand too straight up when rushing or when defending the run. Stewart needs to keep his leverage by maintaining a low pad level. The result will be more usable power which could help him against both the run and pass.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
