Hecht was an unranked recruit in the class of 2021 who decided to stay in-state and walk on to Kansas State. He redshirted in his first season on campus and then played in four games as a backup in 2022. Hecht played in all games for the 2023 season and saw time on special teams. He stepped into the starting lineup in 2024, earning Second Team All-Big 12 honors for his play. He helped the team win nine games that season. In 2025, he was a First Team All-Big 12 selection and helped the Wildcats to six wins.
Following the season, Hecht has been preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a third to fifth round pick.
Hecht is a technical player who does a lot of things to make his life easier. He has great hand usage, as his heavy hands are placed inside to maintain power. They also are activated quickly. In addition to his hand usage, Hecht has good leverage on plays, which helps him retain his power.
He is a good athlete for the positon, as he has good quickness. It sometimes takes a tick after the snap, but he has good quickness. He also has good agility to change direction. Hecht is comfortable playing in space, whether that is getting out on the perimeter or getting to the second the level.
His processing for the position is also of pretty good quality. Hecht recognizes pressure pretty well and is able to communicate at a high level too. He is able to see where pressure is coming from and pass off stunts and twists on the interior. Hecht is a smart football player and uses it to his advantage.
Hecht measured in at 6-foot-4 and 304 pounds at the NFL Combine. His height is solid, but he can fill out his frame a little more to give him more mass. If he can add muscle, his play strength at the position could turn into a strength. Hecht also has shorter arms that measure under 32 inches. While he has good initial agility, Hecht can struggle to handle counters by pass rushers. Players that can get him moving one way and then make him change his direction can take advantage and free themselves.
Overall he has good quickness, but he isn’t the quickest after snapping the ball. Players who are able to get a good jump on plays can give him trouble. He will need to work on getting his head and arms up after the snap more quickly.
