Background

Size: 5-foot-9, 180 pounds

Class: Junior

2019 Stats: 29 receptions, 387 receiving yards, two touchdowns catches, 13.3 yards per catch (in 4 games played)

Moore only played 20 career games at Purdue, over three seasons, but decided to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft. He had big games over his career, which has helped make it possible for him to be a coveted wide receiver.

Purdue recruited Moore out of Louisville Trinity High School, where he was the 2017 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year. Moore proved he deserved those accolades, as he made an impact as a freshman. In 2018, Moore hauled in 114 passes for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdown catches. The Boilermakers won six games that season, but lost in the Music City Bowl. He suffered a hamstring injury in 2019 and only played in four games. Moore totaled 29 catches for 387 yards and two touchdown catches. Without Moore, Purdue limped to a 4-8 record. In 2020, Moore had 35 receptions for 270 yards. Purdue had a 2-4 record for the season.

Moore is now healthy and preparing to play in the NFL. He is currently projected to be selected very early in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Strengths

He is at his best with the ball in his hands. Moore has great run after the catch abilities, so Purdue got him involved on jet sweeps, screens and even in the return game to maximize those talents. He is slippery in the open field and runs hard, making it very hard to bring him to the ground. It is a common occurrence to see plenty of missed tackles when the ball is in Moore’s hands.

His quickness and agility are what helps make him such a great slot receiver. Moore can stop on a dime and change direction. This helps with his route running and with his run after the catch ability. Slot corners will have a tough time keeping up with him because of his speed, quickness and agility.

Moore is a great route-runner. He ran a decent amount of routes at Purdue and excelled at getting separation. Moore breaks in and out of his routes quickly, which gives him room between himself and his defender. Against zone coverage, Moore can find the soft spot and make plays.

Weaknesses

At 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Moore is small for a wide receiver. He has good strength, but his height limits him in a few ways. Moore will most likely be limited to the slot for most of his time in the league because of his height. This also limits his catch radius and his ability to sustain blocks.

Moore doesn’t have the best hands. While he is able to make crazy catches, he has trouble with concentration drops, as he looks to run before completing the catch. His size also gives him problems, as he has a limited catch radius and trouble with contested catches.

In 2019, Moore dealt with a hamstring injury. He is healthy now, but hamstring injuries have a chance to come back and haunt players. This injury also only allowed him to play in 17 games in college, so he will have a decent learning curve when he gets to the NFL.
