The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Peter Skoronski 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Peter Skoronski Background
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: Northwestern
Size: 6-foot-4, 315 pounds
Class: Junior
2022 stats: First Team All-Big-Ten
Skoronski was forced into the lineup early in his Northwestern career and molded himself into an NFL Draft prospect. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He was a four-star interior line prospect out of high school, who signed on with Northwestern. Skoronski was moved to left tackle as a freshman, after Rashawn Slater opted out of the 2020 season. He played well enough to be named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and Northwestern went to the Big Ten Championship. Skoronski stayed at left tackle for his sophomore season and was an All-Big Ten First-Team selection (coaches). The Wildcats struggled to a 3-9 record. Skoronksi was an All-Big Ten First Team member again in 2022, but Northwestern faltered despite his good play with a 1-11 record.
Following the season, Skoronski declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Peter Skoronski Strengths
Skoronski has solid athleticism for the tackle position. He gets off the ball quickly and moves decently well. His ability to move laterally and in a straight line allows him to do plenty of different things well. He can stay in front of pass rushers with his lateral mobility and is able to get to the second level well. Skoronski also has nice flexibility to pair with his athleticism.
He has been proficient as a pass blocker at the collegiate level. Skoronski maintains good balance and has a nice kickslide. He can mirror edge rushers with his solid lateral mobility. Even against top competition, Skoronski has proven that he can protect the blindside of a quarterback at a high level.
His mechanics and fundamentals are great. As mentioned, he has good balance and keeps it throughout most reps. He also has good footwork to help keep him balanced. His hands have some decent strength, but the most impressive thing is that he usually places them well too. This helps him sustain blocks even without having the greatest length.
Peter Skoronski Weaknesses
Skoronski doesn’t have the prototypical size for an NFL offensive tackle. He is 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, which some may argue qualifies him for a move to the interior. While his height isn’t on par with top offensive tackles in the league, his length is where the major area of concern is for Skoronski. His lack of length could allow pass rushers to disengage with his blocks and make it hard for him to reach block.
Adding mass to his frame will help him finish blocks better in the run game. He is a fine run blocker, but he could engage in blocks longer and even get defenders to the ground more often. His tenacity could improve, but he currently may not have the strength to be a power run blocker in the NFL.
There are some who will want to move Skoronski to the interior because of his lack of length. That will take some time for him to adjust, as he will need to add plenty of mass to withstand run blocking and power rushers on the inside of NFL defensive lines.
