The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Omarion Hampton NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Running Back
School: North Carolina
Size: 6-foot, 220 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 281 carries, 1,660 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, 5.9 yards per rush, 38 catches, 373 receiving yards, 2 touchdown receptions
Hampton was a four-star prospect in the class of 2022, who signed with North Carolina. He played a decent amount as a freshman with 401 rushing yards, 40 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns. Hampton improved as a sophomore with 1,504 rushing yards, 222 receiving yards and 16 total touchdowns. He helped the Tar Heels go 8-5 that season. For the 2024 season, Hampton registered 1,660 rushing yards, 373 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns. He led the team to a six-win season.
Following the regular season, Hampton declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is a projected day two pick.
Hampton is a bigger back, standing 6-foot and 220 pounds. With his size comes good play strength, which he uses to his advantage. He has excellent contact balance and is able to break tackles as a result of that. Hampton can be used in short-yardage situations and hold up pretty well.
Despite having a bigger size, Hampton has good speed for the running back position. He shows great acceleration and gets up to top speed quickly. When he is able to get into the open field, Hampton can create big plays because of his speed. The combination of size and speed makes him a unique back.
He has good vision and processes things quickly. Hampton can see holes open up in front of him. If nothing opens up in front of him, he can cut things back to find open space other places. In the open field, Hampton is able to find open space to utilize his speed and generate great plays.
While Hampton has good size and speed, he doesn’t move well laterally. His lack of agility makes him a straight-line athlete. He can outrun defenders or run them over, but doesn’t have much wiggle to make defenders miss. Hampton needs to continue to use his size and speed rather than trying to juke defenders.
His pass protection could use some work. He has the size and willingness to protect the quarterback, but could have better technique and recognition. Knowing where pressure will come from and also trying to sustain his blocks with better hand placement will help him be more of a three-down player.
Hampton could be a better receiver out of the backfield if he had the ability to run better routes. He was effective on screens and dump off passes, but will not be a player who often lines up wide. Hampton did not run a ton of routes at the college level and can be a solid receiver, but will likely fall short of elite at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
