The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Nic Scourton NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Edge Rusher
School: Texas A&M
Size: 6-foot-3, 257 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 37 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 passes defended, 1 forced fumble
Scourton was a four-star recruit in the class of 2022 who signed with Purdue out of Texas. He played a little in his first year, tallying 22 total tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks. His role and production increased in 2023, as he racked up 50 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. He had success, but Purdue won only four games. Scourton transferred to Texas A&M in 2024, registering 37 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five sacks in his one season there. He led the Aggies to an eight-win season.
Following the season, Scourton declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Scourton is a refined pass rusher for an NFL Draft prospect. He has a good pass rush plan going into things. Scourton also has a lot of good pass rush moves and counters. He not only has them at his disposal, he knows when to use them or when to use the counter on any given situation. His moves are NFL ready.
For an edge rusher, Scourton shows good strength for the position. He has a solid bull rush because of his power. Scourton has heavy hands that pack a jolt then can push offensive linemen back into the pocket. He anchors well in run defense and is able to take on double teams.
He has good potential as a run defender as well. Scourton has good play recognition and can see how offensive linemen are going to block him. He then is able to deconstruct and shed blocks pretty well. Scourton can set the edge, although he can maintain gap integrity with more regularity. He shows good pursuit and tackling ability as well.
During his career, Scourton played at a few different weights. He was listed above 280 pounds at times during his career, but then lost weight for the combine and weighed in at 257. It seemed like he was more explosive at Purdue when he weighed less. Ultimately, Scourton needs to find his optimal playing weight at the next level and make sure he stays in that range.
Scourton has limited acceleration and burst. He doesn’t always time the snap well and can struggle to get off the line of scrimmage with urgency. Scourton won’t have the greatest speed on the edge. He regularly wins with his pass rush moves and with his power, but getting past offensive tackles with speed won’t happen often.
His flexibility also isn’t the greatest for an edge prospect. As mentioned, he wins with his pass rush moves, but can struggle to bend around the edge and get to the quarterback. Scourton can work on his flexibility, but will likely have to keep his technique refined if he wants to play at a top level.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
