While the 2023 NFL Draft is still far off in the distance, players that will be drafted early are on the field now. Each week presents unique matchups for draft prospects and this week is no different. Here are NFL Draft prospects to watch in college football week 6 recap.
1. Jaren Hall, QB, BYU Cougars
BYU lost a tough one to Notre Dame in Las Vegas, 28-20. The offense had a tough time getting going, especially in the first half and it ended up costing the team. Part of the issue was with Hall, who finished the game with 120 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 9/17 passing.
The game was not a great showing for Hall, who was starting to build his stock up this season. He will have to play better in the coming weeks, specifically next week against Arkansas. If he bounces back, he could be a day two pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
2. B.J. Ojulari, Edge Rusher, LSU Tigers
LSU did not have a great time against Tennessee and lost 40-13. There weren’t many bright spots for the Tigers, but Ojulari played well despite the stat line not being the most eye-popping. He had six total tackles and did a decent job of creating pressure on Hendon Hooker, even without a sack recorded.
Ojulari has 3.5 sacks this season in four games played, so he is playing decently. His whole body of work warrants him being considered as being a first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He just needs to keep playing well as more tough games come.
3. Andre Carter, EDGE Rusher, Army Black Knights
Army played very bad defensively and lost their matchup with Wake Forest 45-10. Wake Forest is a good offensive team, but the quality of the Army defense was not up to the task. Andre Carter had a decent game, as he finished with six total tackles and a pass defended.
This game presented an opportunity for Carter to play against a solid power 5 team and make a statement. He didn’t make a loud statement, despite playing solidly. Carter still has the potential to be drafted in the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft.
4. Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA Bruins
UCLA stayed undefeated after beating Utah 42-32. The Bruins were able to establish the run against a usually physical Utah defense. Zach Charbonnet had a fantastic game with 22 carries for 198 yards and a touchdown. He did not record a catch in the game, but the Bruins focused on their run game.
Charbonnet was able to display his solid power and contact balance in this game. He ran through arm tackles and fell forward consistently. He has had a great season along with this team, and should be a mid-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
5. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama was down to their backup quarterback, but were able to escape against Texas A&M with a win. Gibbs helped the team immensely with his good play, as he kept the chains moving. He finished the game with 21 carries for 154 yards. Gibbs also had three catches for 13 yards.
Texas A&M’s run defense isn’t great this season, but Gibbs had to step up in this game to help his team and he did. Through this season, he has proven to be electric with the ball in his hands, whether that is in the return game, catching passes or running the football. He has the potential to be a first round pick this year.
