NFL Draft Prospects in the 2022 Mercari Texas Bowl

Publish Date: December 25, 2021

The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2022 Mercari Texas Bowl.

Kansas State Wildcats Draft Prospects

Skylar Thompson, QB

Thompson has plenty of experience at quarterback for the Wildcats after playing for five seasons. He has passed for 6,865 yards, 39 touchdowns and 16 interceptions on 62 percent completion. This season he has 1,844 passing yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions on 68.8 percent completion.

He has decent size for an NFL quarterback at 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds. Thompson not only can throw the ball decently, but runs decently well and can extend plays. He is a projected undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent

Malik Knowles, WR

Knowles has been at Kansas State for four seasons with production, but is still a junior. He has 76 receptions for 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career. This season, he has 26 catches for 399 yards and two touchdowns.

At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Knowles is a bigger receiver and can use that to his advantage. Because he is a junior, he will likely elect to return to school. If he does declare, he is a projected undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent

LSU Tigers Draft Prospects

Ed Ingram, OG/C

After playing as a freshman in 2017, Ingram redshirted in 2018 following some legal trouble. He made three starts in 2019, helping the Tigers win the National Championship. Ingram was a full-time starter in 2020. For his play in the 2021 season, Ingram has been named All-SEC Second Team.

He has solid size for an interior offensive lineman at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds. His experience is something that not everyone brings to the table. He has held up in both pass and run blocking with changing offenses at LSU over the years. Ingram is a projected day two or early day three pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick

Damone Clark, LB

Clark has played for four seasons at LSU and has improved in every season. He has 249 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in his career. This season, Clark has registered 135 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Clark has great size for a linebacker. He has proven to be able to stop the run, but could use some work on his coverage if he wants to make an NFL roster. Clark is a projected fourth to sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Projected Draft Range: Fourth Round Pick-Sixth Round Pick

*Clark has opted out of this bowl game.

*Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is not playing in this game. He is a projected top 20 first-round pick.

Other Draft Prospects: DL Neil Farrell (6th-UFA), EDGE Ali Gaye (6th-UFA), LB Mike Jones (6th-UFA), OT Austin Deculus (6th-UFA), CB Cordale Flott (UFA), OG/C Chasen Hines (UFA), S Todd Harris (UFA), RB John Emery (UFA), DL Glen Logan (UFA), WR Trey Palmer (UFA), OG/C Liam Shanahan (UFA)
