The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2022 Frisco Bowl.
Ethan Mooney, K
Mooney has been the kicker for the Mean Green for four seasons. He has made 51 of 66 field goals in his career and 172 of 174 extra points. This season, Mooney has made 51 of 52 extra points and 17 of 20 field goals.
The biggest thing for Mooney’s draft stock is to prove he can make longer field goals. He is decently accurate, but has only made one field goal of over 50 yards in his career. For Mooney to make a team, he will have to do well after being a training camp invite.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
Austin Aune, QB
Aune is 29 years old playing quarterback for North Texas after trying his hand at Minor League Baseball. He has been on campus for four years, but has played a significant amount of time over the last three. In his career, Aune has 7,086 passing yards, 55 touchdowns and 26 interceptions on 54.5 percent completion. This season, Aune has thrown for 3,309 yards, 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 56.7 percent completion.
At 6-foot-2 and 216 pounds, Aune has ok size for a quarterback. His age will severely limit his draft stock, as will the fact that he has not been an efficient passer. He has solid arm talent and has said he is going pro after the bowl game.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
JL Skinner, S
Skinner has been an impact player over his career with Boise State. He has logged 208 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions and 12 passes defended during his time as a Bronco. In 2022, Skinner has tallied 65 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and five passes defended.
He has great measurables for the position, as he stands at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds. Skinner can come up and play the run well, which could make him a candidate to move to linebacker at the NFL level. He showed improvement in his coverage this season and will need to continue to do so as a pro.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
George Holani, RB
Holani had some success early in his career, then fought through some adversity to make a good comeback. He rushed for 1,014 yards as a freshman, then didn’t eclipse the 1,000-yard mark until this season. This season, Holani rushed for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 22 catches for 153 yards and three scores in 2022.
At 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds Holani has a decent build. He runs with good power and has solid contact balance. Holani isn’t the quickest or most elusive running back, but he uses his solid vision to find holes and pick up yardage.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Other Draft Prospects: EDGE George Tarlas (UFA)
