The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2022 First Responder Bowl.
Quindell Johnson, S
Johnson has been a four-year impact player for the Tigers in his career. He has 316 total tackles, 10 interceptions and 24 passes defended in his career. This season, he has registered 73 total tackles, four interceptions and four passes defended.
He won’t be the biggest safety at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, but Johnson has had a great college career. Johnson has shown he can make plenty of tackles for a safety and he can also make plays on the ball. There is a real chance that Johnson gets drafted late in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Projected Draft Range: Fifth Round Pick-Seventh Round Pick
Caden Prieskorn, TE
After two seasons of being a role player, Prieskorn has blossomed into a star. He has 53 receptions for 672 yards and six touchdowns in his career. This season, Prieskorn has 46 receptions for 593 yards and six touchdowns.
Prieskorn has the height to play at the next level at 6-foot-6, but he needs to add to his frame. If he can get stronger, he can be a more all-around tight end. He has some eligibility left and might go back to school to show off more of his improvements.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Hunter Reynolds, S
Reynolds started his career at Michigan before transferring to Utah State. For his career, Reynolds has 193 total tackles, four interceptions and 10 passes defended. This season, Reynolds has 88 total tackles, three interceptions and seven passes defended.
He has adequate size at 6-foot and 200 pounds. Reynolds has played well once he received his opportunity at Utah State. He has plenty of tackles and will need to continue to improve his coverage skills.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Calvin Tyler Jr., RB
Tyler signed with Oregon State out of high school and then transferred to Utah State after not playing much for the Beavers. He has 2,051 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground in his career. In 2022, he has rushed for 1,043 yards and seven touchdowns. He has added a receiving element to his game this season with 13 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown.
While he is short at 5-foot-8, Tyler is well-built at 210 pounds. He runs hard and can be hard to find behind the line of scrimmage. Tyler will need to continue to show he can catch the ball out of the backfield, as that will enable him to stay on the field for three downs.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
*Tyler has opted out for this bowl game.
