The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2021 Cricket Celebration Bowl.
Decobie Durant, CB
One of the best prospects in the FCS and at an HBCU is Decobie Durant. He has made an impact for the Bulldogs for a few seasons. Coming into the season, he had 12 passes defended and five interceptions. This season alone, Durant has totaled 11 passes defended and four interceptions.
At 5-foot-11 and 180, Durant isn’t the biggest corner on the field, but he is big enough to play corner in the NFL. He will see a leap in competition at the next level, but he has performed well in the FCS. Durant is currently projected to be a late-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
Zafir Kelly, CB
Kelly has helped Durant in the secondary for South Carolina State. On the season, Kelly has three interceptions and four passes defended. In a game against Morgan State, Kelly registered two interceptions, which helped them win big over the Bears.
He is a lengthy corner at 6-foot-1, but he’ll need to add weight to his 170-pound frame. Kelly may not be good enough to be drafted, but could get invited to some camps. He is currently projected to be an undrafted free agent.
Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent
Other Draft Prospects: OG/C Jalen Page (UFA)
De’Jahn Warren, CB
After spending time in JUCO, Warren spent the 2021 spring and fall season for the Tigers. He had one interception and 17 tackles in the spring. He has had 16 total tackles in the fall.
Warren stands at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds. He is lanky and playing for one of the best corners in NFL history has clearly helped him. Warren could be drafted very late in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent
James Houston, Edge
Houston played at Florida before transferring to Jackson State. He was a reserve who received a decent amount of playing time, but did not start for Florida. In his one season with the Tigers, he broke out with 14.5 sacks.
He is an undersized linebacker/edge rusher at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds. His specialty at Jackson State has been getting after the quarterback and he’ll need to add a lot of weight to be more than just a situational pass rusher in the NFL. His sack production can’t be overlooked and he could be drafted late in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Projected Draft Range: Sixth Round-Undrafted Free Agent
Other Draft Prospects: LB Aubrey Miller (UFA)
