The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Mykel Williams NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Edge Rusher
School: Georgia
Size: 6-foot-5, 260 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 21 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles
Williams was a five-star recruit who decided to stay in the state of Georgia in the class of 2022. He was a Freshman All-American despite just starting two games, as he generated 4.5 sacks. Georgia went undefeated and won the National Championship that season. As more of a full-time starter in 2023, Williams racked up 18 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He helped the Bulldogs go 13-1 in 2023. For the 2024 season, Williams played with an injured ankle, but had 21 tackles and five sacks. Williams led Georgia to the College Football Playoff and 11 wins.
Following Georgia’s season, Williams declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Williams has the prototypical size for an NFL edge rusher, standing at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds. He has solid play strength and can even continue filling out his frame to improve on that. With his size, comes good length, as he has over 34-inch arms. He uses his length well to shed blocks. Williams also has big hands, which pack a punch.
His athleticism stands out, which is specifically impressive given his size. He has good burst at the snap of the ball, getting a good jump on the play. Williams has solid speed and flexibility, which can help him dip around the edge. He also has solid body control. When he isn’t injured, Williams has the athleticism to be a real threat on the edge.
For an edge rusher, Williams has good strength and power. He can anchor well against the run and set the edge. As a pass rusher, he can convert speed to power well. He has shown off an effective bull rush, which is fueled by his good power. With more room to fill out his frame, it is a good bet that Williams can increase his strength at the next level.
Williams has good size, but he also struggles maintaining a low pad level. He can stand straight up, which makes him lose his power. In order to make the most out of his talents, he needs to make sure his pad level is low, which will make him harder to block for extended periods of time.
In order to become a better pass rusher, Williams needs a better pass rush plan and more moves. While he has a nice bull rush, he can add more moves and counters to his game. Right now, he wins because of his athleticism, length and power, but if he adds more moves, his sack numbers should increase at the next level.
His injury history will need to be checked out by NFL teams. Williams has had foot and ankle injuries over the last two seasons. His production was likely limited by his ankle injury, but he didn’t have a great season of production. Williams being healthy for a full season will help his development.
