The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Mike Green NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Edge Rusher
School: Marshall
Size: 6-foot-3, 251 pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2024 stats: 84 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, 2 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery
Green was a three-star recruit who stayed in-state to play for Virginia. He had one sack in 2021 for the Cavaliers. Green redshirted in 2022 and was announced to no longer be with the team. He transferred to Marshall for the 2023 season, posting 43 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. His play helped the Thundering Herd win six games that season. In 2024, Green upped his game with 84 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. He led the team to a 10-win season.
Following the season, Green declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is projected to be a first-round pick.
His athleticism is great for the position. Green has a good burst at the snap of the ball, getting a quick start to plays. He can turn that quickness into speed, but he is also able to change direction well too. Green also has solid flexibility, which gives him the ability to bend around the edge to get to the quarterback.
Green had great pass-rushing production and has the chance to excel in that area at the next level. His speed, quickness and flexibility can help him win on the edge, but he has more. He can convert speed to power as well. On top of that he has plenty of good pass rush moves and counters that he knows how to use. Green is a refined pass rusher for a college prospect and that even showed against the best competition.
He has a good motor for an edge rusher too. Green keeps working relentlessly to get to the quarterback and can rack up sacks with his secondary efforts. That, paired with his athleticism and moves, makes it easy to see how he can be a successful rusher at the next level. This shows up against the run too, as he has good pursuit and can make plays downfield.
Green will have to be thoroughly checked out off the field. After getting dismissed from the team at Virginia, he ended up at Marshall. Teams will have intel on why he was redshirted and ultimately no longer with the team. It may hurt his draft value if teams don’t like what they find out.
He has a well-filled out frame, but he just has average height and below average length for an NFL edge rusher. His lack of length can make it harder for him to shed. He uses his hands well to help cover up the issue with his length, but his technique and athleticism will have to help him get over this obstacle.
While he is a refined pass rusher, Green can be a liability against the run. He can struggle to shed blocks quick enough to make plays. Green also doesn’t always see where the play is going and could do a better job of tracking the ball. He does show good effort in pursuit, which makes up for some of the deficiencies.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
