The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Mason Taylor NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Tight End
School: LSU
Size: 6-foot-5, 255 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: 55 receptions, 546 receiving yards, 2 touchdown catches, 9.9 yards per catch
Taylor was a three-star prospect who signed with LSU out of Florida. He immediately started producing for the Tigers, catching 38 passes for 414 yards and three touchdowns. His play helped the Tigers win 10 games in 2022. In the 2023 season, Taylor hauled in 36 passes for 348 yards and one touchdown. He helped LSU to their second-straight 10-win season. For the 2024 season, he registered 55 catches for 546 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Taylor led LSU to a nine-win season.
Following the season, Taylor declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to fourth-round pick.
Taylor has solid size for the tight end position. In a class where a there are a lot of undersized tight ends, Taylor stands 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds. With his size comes solid play strength, even though he still has more room to fill out his frame. He has a solid catch radius as well for the position. With the class not having a lot of bigger tight ends, this could work in Taylor’s favor.
For his size, Taylor is also a good athelete following in his father Jason’s footsteps. He has decent speed and acceleration for a tight end. While he won’t wow anyone, he moves well for his size. He has good agility and also has nice body control. Taylor can leap well and can make catches off of his frame.
His hands are among the best in the class. Taylor is a reliable target who rarely has any drops. He can focus and catch the easy ones routinely. Taylor has the ability to make catches off his frame, but even more impressively, Taylor can make contested catches. When he is in traffic, he can come down with the football as long as it is decently on target.
While he has some solid size, Taylor needs to develop more as a blocker. He can add some more play strength, but what could do even more for him is improving his technique. His pad level gets too high and he loses his power, so he needs to maintain his leverage. He can have better punch placement as well to help him sustain his blocks. Taylor has room to develop as a blocker more than other prospects in this class.
At LSU, Taylor didn’t run a wide variety of routes. He will have to add to his route tree, but also try to run better routes. Taylor can struggle to get in and out of his breaks quickly, but also can have trouble changing speeds. Beating man to man coverage could be an issue for him in the NFL.
He is a solid athelte, but Taylor lacks elite athleticism in a few ways. Taylor has just solid acceleration and speed. He likely won’t attack the seams of a defense or stretch a defense vertically. Taylor figures to be a player who can run a lot of shorter routes and be a security blanket for quarterbacks.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
