Lloyd was productive at both South Carolina and USC during his college career. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As a four-star recruit in the class of 2020, Lloyd signed with South Carolina out of Maryland. He redshirted his first year on campus then played sparingly in 2021 with 228 rushing yards, 44 receiving yards and one touchdown. The following season his role increased with him totaling 573 rushing yards, 176 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. His play helped South Carolina win seven games. Following the season, he decided to transfer to USC. With the Trojans, he tallied 820 rushing yards, 232 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He led USC to an eight-win season.
Following the 2023 season, he declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick.
MarShawn Lloyd Strengths
While he isn’t the tallest running back, Lloyd is well-built. He is 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds, which makes him a very compact player. His contact balance is solid, which comes from his stature. He can run through arm tackles with solid play strength.
He is a big play threat in a few different ways. Lloyd has good speed to break away from defenses. He also can cut well and elude defenders. With good acceleration to start a play, he can get downfield quickly. Lloyd can catch passes and create something from small beginnings.
Lloyd is a good route-runner and can be a threat in the passing games. He ran a decent amount of routes during his college career. Lloyd gets in and out of his breaks quickly to create separation. He is a mismatch for linebackers.
MarShawn Lloyd Weaknesses
Lloyd is a receiving threat, but can have trouble catching at times. He has a limited catch radius with his height and can struggle to make contested catches. Lloyd also has focus drops and needs to make sure he brings the ball in before turning up field.
His vision as a runner is also below par. Lloyd can sometimes miss holes in front of him at the line of scrimmage. This extends to the second level as well, as he can leave some opportunities for bigger plays on the table.
He has solid size for pass pro, but he needs to show he can do better in this area. Lloyd can see where pressure is coming from better, but also he can square rushers up to better protect the quarterback. He can be in on third downs as a receiver, but pass pro needs to get better.
Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
