Kristian Fulton 2020 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 5, 2020

The 2020 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kristian Fulton 2020 NFL Draft profile.

Background

Position: Cornerback

Size: 6-foot, 200 pounds

Class: Senior

2019 stats: 38 total tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 14 passes defended

While he was a five-star prospect, it took Fulton a while to make an impact with the Tigers, but once he did, he was great. Now, he heads to the NFL Draft with hopes that he can be valuable to a team a little earlier in his pro career.

Fulton saw limited action as a freshman, playing in three games. As a sophomore, he was suspended for the season for failing and tampering with a drug test. He was not eligible for a redshirt. Fulton was back as a junior after appealing to the NCAA. He finished the year with 16 total tackles, one interception and six passes defended. The Tigers capped off the 2018 season with a win over UCF in the Peach Bowl. He decided to come back for his senior season and had 14 passes defended. Fulton’s play helped LSU go 15-0, as they steamrolled the competition on the way to their National Championship.

After his career was capped off in the best way possible, Fulton is now prepping for the next level. He will not be the first corner drafted, but Fulton will likely be selected at some point in the first round.

Strengths

Kristian Fulton 2020 NFL Draft Profile

Kristian Fulton

Fulton is a very good cover corner in man to man coverage. His good man coverage starts at the line of scrimmage where he can press well. He mirrors well and sticks with his man for extended periods of time if need be. In the NFL, Fulton should be able to hold up against some tough matchups.

His technique is up there with the best corners in the class. Fulton displays good footwork at the start of the play, which helps him deal with receivers’ releases. He has really fluid hips, so when he needs to turn and run, he doesn’t lose a lot of momentum and can keep up with his man.

He anticipates routes well and jumps them on several occasions. Fulton, at times, can look like he is running the route and the receiver is defending him. Once he realizes what play is being run, he attacks the receiver giving them little chance for a completion.

Weaknesses

While he does play zone coverage decently, he is limited because he isn’t very long. Teams that play mostly zone coverage will likely not target Fulton as he would not fit their defense. This will also limit him a little bit in man coverage, but he has coped with it well in college.

Fulton is not a great tackler. He is physical when the ball is in the air, but once someone has possession of the ball, he tries to take players out at the ankles. This results in not much contact and a lot of missed tackles. Teams drafting him will have to be ok with his below-average tackling abilities.

To go along with his troubles tackling, Fulton also isn’t committed to stopping the run. He doesn’t have a lot of strength to shed blocks, but also doesn’t put a great amount of effort into getting past blockers. If he is in the area to make a play, his tackling will allow some big plays to happen.

Projected Draft Range: First round-second round pick
