The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kelvin Banks NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: Texas
Size: 6-foot-4, 320 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: First Team All-American
Banks was a five-star prospect who decided to stay in his home state of Texas to play for the Longhorns. He started right away at left tackle for Texas and was a Freshman All-American. His play helped the team win eight games that season. In 2023, he resumed at left tackle, aiding the team to a 12-win season and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. He was a Second Team All-American in 2023. Banks was a First Team All-American in 2024 and led the team to the CFP semi-finals.
Following the season, Banks declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Banks is a great athlete for an offensive tackle. He gets out of his stance quickly and after that point is able to move well in a linear fashion and also shows good agility. Banks can get to the second level as a run blocker and also has the ability to cover space on screens and pulls. He moves well enough to mirror well in pass protection, even against highly athletic edge rushers.
His run blocking was particularly impressive in college. He can execute his assignment well and has good leverage to start plays in order to create holes. As mentioned, he can get to the second level and block linebackers. His ability to move makes him a good fit for plenty of different rushing attacks.
He has solid play strength for the position, which helps him in a few different ways. Banks can move defenders when run-blocking thanks to his power, which clears some pretty big holes. When he is in pass pro, he shows the ability to anchor well and can handle pretty powerful pass rushers.
Banks can lean and lunge in pass protection, which gets him off-balance. Banks leans forward, when he should stay more patient and let defenders come to him. Improving this can greatly help his ability to protect the quarterback and turn this into a strength in his game.
There are struggles on tape of Banks against length. He doesn’t have the greatest length himself and lengthy edge rushers can disengage from his blocks more quickly than others. The struggles vs. length could make him a candidate to move to guard, where those defenders won’t be able to use their long arms and the edge to beat him.
While he has strong hands, Banks can work on both his hand placement and timing. He needs to keep his hands inside to help sustain blocks and his hands could be quicker. With his issues going up against players with great length, his punch timing and placement will be crucial to help him sustain blocks longer.
