Keith Abney Background

Position: Cornerback

School: Arizona State

Size: 5-foot-10, 187 pounds

Class: Junior

2025 stats: 44 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 12 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

Abney was a three-star recruit in the class of 2023 who signed with Arizona State out of Texas. He played sparingly as a freshman, as he had two tackles and one interception. His role increased in 2024, as he registered 52 total tackles, three interceptions and nine passes defended. Arizona State won 11 games that season. In 2025, Abney impressed with 44 tackles, two interceptions and 12 passes defended. He led the Sun Devils to an eight-win season.

Following the season, Abney declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.

Keith Abney Strengths

Abney is a versatile corner who is able to be successful in both man-to-man and zone coverages. In man-to-man, he can mirror receivers’ routes pretty well, making it hard for them to separate. When he plays zone, Abney reads the quarterbacks’ eyes well and keeps good balance. He played on the outside in college, but he could have added versatility if he could play the nickel in the pros.

He has great ball skills for the position, which led to great ball production. Abney shows good awareness and then tracks the ball in the air well. He then makes a break towards the ball and is able to attack the catchpoint. Abney is able to defend passes or intercept them to help his team.

His athleticism is solid for the position as well. He has good quickness at the start of plays and can build to top speed quickly. Abney has good agility and has the ability to mirror in man coverage. While his top-end speed likely falls below the great level, he has solid speed. He also has good body control.

Keith Abney Weaknesses

Abney is a smaller corner for the NFL. He measured in at 5-foot-10 and 187 pounds. Abney can add more muscle to his frame to add to his play strength, but he still may struggle with bigger targets. Along with his size, he doesn’t have the greatest length, as his arms measured in at 30 inches. This limits his ability to make plays on some balls.

His top-end speed is average at best. Abney can struggle to stay connected when receivers get vertical. There are also times when he gets beaten early and doesn’t have the speed to recover.

He has great aggressiveness, which usually helps him, but it can be too much at times. Abney can get physical in coverage and was called for a lot of penalties in college. He needs to trust his technique and stop grabbing at the next level.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
