Scott started his college career off at the JUCO level, playing at Snow College in 2020 and 2021. He was a four-star JUCO recruit in the class of 2022 who signed with Auburn out of California. In his first season at Auburn, Scott totaled 53 tackles, four tackles for loss and four passes defended. The Tigers won five games that season. For the 2023 season, he posted 44 tackles and five passes defended. His play helped the Tigers win six games in 2023. In the 2024 season, he started just four games and made 18 tackles. Scott decided to transfer to Miami for the 2025 season. He was a Second Team All-ACC selection, posting 64 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss and five sacks. Scott led the Hurricanes to the National Championship Game.
Following the CFP run, Scott has been preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to fourth round pick.
Scott is really good in a specific role, which is playing the nickel. He thrives on playing in the box near the line of scrimmage. Scott is able to read plays quickly and flow to the football, whether it is a run or pass. His good quickness and agility shine, as he closes down on plays before yardage can be gained.
He is a great run defender, even for a player who specializes in playing the nickel. Scott takes on blocks when he needs to, but is an expert at slipping them and going to make plays on the ball. He shows good pursuit, taking good angles, and he can finish plays with a good tackle.
His effectiveness as a blitzer is also impressive. Scott had five sacks last season for Miami. He is able to time the snap well on some plays. On others, his blitz is delayed and he can read blocks to go find a crease to get to the quarterback. Defensive coordinators who like blitzing from the nickel will love Scott.
Scott is an older prospect who started his college career in 2020. He will be given less time to fully develop and will have to make plays early in his career. He also missed some time in 2023 and didn’t start in 2024. Scott is an old player who needs a clearly defined nickel role to be impactful.
He is aggressive and willing to make plays, but he can be a bit too much at times. Scott can overspursue on some run plays, giving the ball carrier cutback lanes. He can also fall for misdirection and play action. Scott will need to read the field more clearly at the next level.
His man-to-man coverage, especially when he has to cover wide receivers, is not great. Scott can struggle to stay with receivers vertically, but also when they are making their breaks. He is better in zone or covering running backs or tight ends if asked to play man coverage.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Fourth Round Pick
Draft Grade: Fourth Round Pick
