Tuimoloau was a five-star recruit in the class of 2021 who signed with Ohio State out of Washington. Tuimoloau played right away, registering 17 total tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He helped the team win 11 games that season. In 2022, Tuimoloau tallied 28 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He once again helped the team win 11 games. For the 2023 season, Tuimoloau had 38 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and five sacks. His play helped Ohio State win 11 games for the third straight season. This past season, Tuimoloau accrued 61 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. He led Ohio State to a national championship in his final season.
Following the national championship, Tuimoloau has been preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.
Tuimoloau has great size for the edge position at the NFL level. He will look just like a 4-3 defensive end at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds. Tuimoloau demonstrates good play strength and won’t need to fill out his frame at the next level. With his size and strength comes great length, as he has 33 and 3/4-inch arms. He uses his length well to help him shed.
With his powerful hands, Tuimoloau has a wide array of pass rush moves and counters at his disposal. He uses his heavy hands with good placement and timing. Tuimoloau goes into each play with a rush plan and when his rush is stopped, he knows how to counter. His technique and hand fighting are good enough to help him win at the next level.
His run defense is great for the position. Tuimoloau can be trusted on all three downs, which is more than a lot of edge rushers can offer. He sheds decently quickly and is able to go find the football. Tuimoloau shows good pursuit and is able to tackle running backs when he is within range.
Tuimoloau isn’t the most flexible edge rusher. He won’t win bending around the edge very often. That will make him have to win by using his power, pass rush moves and motor. He could be a candidate to move inside on passing downs to rush from the interior, which will maximize his talents.
He isn’t always able to get a quick jump at the snap. This is partially on his ability to time the snap, but also because of his limited quickness. Timing up the snap better can help him, but his relative lack of quickness will make it hard for him to really get the edge on offensive linemen early in reps.
During his college career, his production was inconsistent. There were games where Tuimoloau would log multiple sacks and then there were also multi-game droughts without sacks. He did get hot down the stretch for Ohio State on their championship run, but he’ll need work on being more consistent at the next level.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
