Jonathon Brooks 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 22, 2024

The 2024 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jonathon Brooks 2024 NFL Draft Profile.

Jonathon Brooks Background

Position: Running Back

School: Texas

Size: 6-foot, 216 pounds

Class: Redshirt Sophomore

2023 stats: 187 carries, 1,139 rushing yards, 6.1 yards per rush, 10 rushing touchdowns, 25 catches, 286 receiving yards, 1 touchdown reception

Brooks only got one real season to shine, but improved his stock a lot last season at Texas. Now he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Brooks signed with Texas to stay in state. In his first season on campus, he played sparingly with 143 rushing yards. He was stuck behind both Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson in 2022, but still managed 197 rushing yards. Brooks jumped into the starting lineup in 2023 and ran with the opportunity. He totaled 1,139 rushing yards, 286 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns. A torn ACL ended Brooks’s season.

Following the ACL injury, Brooks opted to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day-two pick.

Jonathon Brooks Strengths

Brooks has good speed and burst. He can get to top speed quickly and when his velocity is great. He is capable of breaking off big runs because of his speed and quickness, along with his good open-field vision. There won’t be too many players able to track him down on long runs.

Not only is he fast, but Brooks can make people miss. He has a good jump cut to get to open space when reading his blocks. In the open field he is shifty enough to put a move on a defender and make them miss. This can turn decent runs into great ones for a team.

His ability to impact the game as a pass catcher is also great. He has good hands and runs after the catch well. Brooks runs solid routes and runs a decent number of them. If he continues to work on his craft, Brooks could be a mismatch for linebackers in the passing game.

Jonathon Brooks Weaknesses

While he measured at 216 at the NFL Combine, it didn’t look he played at that weight. He has good contact balance, but his game is not built on power. He can even use his power more often if needed once he works on adding strength.

His pass protection is decent but can improve. He needs to see where pressure is coming from better. In addition, he needs to square up incoming pressure. More reps in pass pro should give him the knowledge and experience to be a complete third down back.

Brooks may have been the top running back selected in this draft, but he tore his ACL during the season. He missed the Combine and is recovering. Brooks could come along slowly as a pro while he recovers from his injury, but he didn’t have a lot of wear and tear during his college career with just one year of a lot of carries.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick

Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
