Campbell was a five-star recruit in the class of 2022 who signed with Alabama out of New Jersey. He didn’t play much as a freshman, but then made an impact as a sophomore. Campbell tallied 66 total tackles, four tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. His play helped Alabama win 11 games that season and reach the College Football Playoff. For the 2024 season, Campbell was all over the field, registering 117 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and five sacks. He led the Crimson Tide to nine wins.
Following the season, Campbell declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
Campbell has a good size for a modern-day NFL linebacker. He stands at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds with a well-filled-out frame. With his size comes good play strength, which he uses well to deconstruct and shed blocks. He also has solid length with 32 and 1/2 inch arms, which also helps him shed and gives him a large tackle radius.
His athleticism is great for the position. He has good acceleration, speed and agility. Campbell uses his athletic ability in a lot of ways. He shows good pursuit and is able to make a lot of tackles. Campbell has the movement abilities to hold up in both man and zone coverage as well.
He has shown the ability to rush the passer well. While some will have him as a tweener between a linebacker and edge rusher, that is mostly a product of his success as a pass rusher. He can blitz well, with the ability to shed blocks and bend around the edge to get to the quarterback. With more time, he can improve his pass rush moves and plan to even further improve on this.
Campbell can use some work diagnosing plays. There are times when he reads things wrong or he reads them too late to make a good impact. He still makes plenty of plays on the ball, but that is a product of his good pursuit rather than seeing the play clearly from the start. Campbell needs to read his keys better to improve in this area.
He is an aggressive player, but that can sometimes get him in trouble. Campbell can be overagressive, as he sometimes falls for play action and other misdirection, which puts him out of position. He needs to see the field more clearly and then go make plays on the ball to improve his stock.
His ability to elude blocks is good, but Campbell can take blocks on better. There are times when he lets blockers hit him as he waits for it instead of trying to make contact and then deconstruct. If he can elude blocks and also take them on well to shed, Campbell can get free to make even more plays.
