2025 stats: N/A- 2024 stats: 44 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 9 passes defended
McCoy was a three-star recruit who signed with Oregon State out of Texas in the class of 2023. As a freshman with the Beavers, McCoy had 31 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended. Following the season, he transferred to Tennessee. In 2024 with the Volunteers, McCoy totaled 44 tackles, four interceptions and nine passes defended. McCoy tore his ACL in January of 2025 and did not suit up this past season for the Volunteers.
Following the 2025 season, McCoy declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.
McCoy has great coverage skills for both zone and man-to-man. He has the ability to press, then mirror in man-to-man fairly well, as he can stay in phase with receivers’ routes. McCoy also shows good zone coverage as well. He shows good eye balance in zone and makes sure to find receivers and morph his zones to cover them.
His athleticism is some of the best in the class for the cornerback position. He is a former track athlete and that speed shows up on tape. While he can take a little longer to get to top speed than expected, McCoy can recover so well with his speed. He has good agility, with the ability to turn his hips well and stay with receivers.
He has solid ball skills for the position as well. McCoy had four interceptions and nine passes defended in 2024. He is able to track the ball in the air and then is able to attack the catchpoint to make plays. Whether it is defending passes or intercepting passes, McCoy battles tough and makes palys on the ball.
McCoy had two solid college seasons, but tore his ACL in January of 2025. He didn’t play in 2025 and could have used the reps to really make his case as a top player in the class. Teams will need to check out his health during the combine and see if he will be ready to go in 2026.
His tackling and run support is below average for a corner. McCoy fails to play aggressively by coming downhill to help against the run. Once he is there he fails to wrap up and make a good form tackle. The below-average tackling shows up after receivers catch the ball and try to pick up yards after the catch.
There are times where he gets grabby in coverage. When he is in recovery mode, he can grab to try to keep up. McCoy will draw more flags in the NFL if he doesn’t trust his technique more.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
Draft Grade: First Round Pick
