The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Jahdae Barron NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Cornerback
School: Texas
Size: 5-foot-11, 194 pounds
Class: Senior
2024 stats: 67 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 11 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery
Barron was a four-star prospect in the class of 2020 who stayed in his home state to play for the Longhorns. He didn’t play much in his first two seasons at Texas. Barron started in 2022 and played well with 78 total tackles, three passes defended and two interceptions. He helped the team win eight games that season. For the 2023 season, he tallied 60 tackles, six passes defended and one interception. Barron aided Texas in winning 12 games and making the College Football Playoff. In the 2024 season, Barron had 67 total tackles, five interceptions and 11 passes defended. He led the Longhorns to a 13-3 record and an appearance in the CFP Semifinals.
Following the College Football Playoff, Barron has been preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is a projected first-round pick.
Barron is a versatile secondary player. He can play safety, nickel or outside cornerback. This past season, he played on the perimeter and had his best season. NFL defensive coordinators will love his ability to move around and play in a variety of roles. He can play zone coverage anywhere and showed more man coverage this past season.
His success stems from his awareness and instincts. Barron has great route recognition and can even be seen running routes for receivers, which puts him in great position to make plays. He sees the field clearly from zone coverage, showing good eye balance between the quarterback and receiver. In man coverage, he can see the routes developing before they happen.
Whether he plays inside or out, Barron has proven to be a good run defender. He can diagnose plays quickly, then shows good pursuit of the football. Barron has solid tackling technique and is capable of bringing down bigger ball carriers. He will do his part against the run for an NFL defense.
Barron is a little small for the corner position. He stands at 5-foot-11 and 194 pounds, which is fine if he is playing nickel, but is a little small for the outside. Barron also has shorter arms, that are under 30 inches. This can make it harder for him to go up against bigger receivers, as he can’t match their catch radius.
He has been more proficient and experienced in zone coverage than man in his career. Barron played more man coverage this season, but teams might be worried about his ability to hold up in man coverage because of his lack of reps. He may be more of a fit for teams that play more zone coverage.
His athleticism is good, but Barron has some questions about his speed. He ran a fast 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine, but he can have trouble keeping up with speedy receivers on tape. This especially shows up if a receiver gets a step on him, as he doesn’t have the greatest recovery speed to catch up.
