George Pickens 2022 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 26, 2022

The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the George Pickens 2022 NFL Draft Profile.

George Pickens Background

Position: Wide Receiver

Size: 6-foot-3, 195 pounds

Class: Junior

2021 stats: 5 receptions, 107 receiving yards, 21.4 yards per catch

Pickens has battled injury, but showed flashes of great potential during his time at Georgia. He is now hoping that potential will help him in the NFL Draft.

As a five-star recruit out of Alabama, Pickens decided to go to Georgia for college. He impressed as a freshman with 49 receptions for 727 yards and eight touchdowns. The Bulldogs went 12-2 with a win in the Sugar Bowl during that season. Pickens returned to play eight games in the shortened 2020 season, registering 36 receptions for 513 yards and six touchdowns along the way. Georgia won the Peach Bowl with Pickens’ help. Leading up to the 2021 season, Pickens tore his ACL. After returning late in the season, Pickens hauled in five passes for 107 yards. Georgia won the National Championship and Pickens helped out down the stretch.

Following the season, Pickens declared for the NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

George Pickens Strengths

Pickens has a good frame for a wide receiver. He is 6-foot-3 and has long arms that measured at 32 7/8 inches. With his size and arm length, he will have the advantage over most of the corners he’ll face at the NFL level. His catch radius will be appealing to NFL quarterbacks.

He has some of the best hands in the class. Pickens has good focus and can haul in the easy ones. He can also catch in traffic and isn’t afraid of getting hit. The more exciting part of his game is the ability to bring down acrobatic catches where he dives or gets his feet in before going out of bounds.

With his size, Pickens is a good deep threat because he can win jump balls. Another reason he is a deep threat is because of his speed. He ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the NFL combine and has great straight-line speed to help him separate vertically.

George Pickens Weaknesses

The biggest weakness for Pickens is the injury. Most notably, he hasn’t proven to be the same since his ACL injury. He did return near the end of the 2021 season, but did not see a full workload. Teams will have to hope that he can regain his form from the early part of his career.

He can also add more muscle to his frame to be a more complete wide receiver. Pickens is a taller but is skinnier as a wide receiver. In order to more successfully beat press coverage and outmuscle defenders for the ball, he’ll need to add to his frame.

Pickens can also refine his route-running. He is a bigger receiver and can struggle to get in and out of his breaks. While he can get separation vertically, cornerbacks can mirror him more easily because his routes aren’t the crispest.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
