The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Emery Jones Jr. NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Offensive Tackle
School: LSU
Size: 6-foot-4, 312 pounds
Class: Junior
2024 stats: Second Team All-SEC
Jones was a four-star prospect in the class of 2022 who stayed home to play for LSU. He immediately started for the Tigers as a freshman at right tackle. His play helped LSU win 10 games that season. Jones returned at right tackle in 2023, helping the Tigers win 10 games again. For the 2024 season, Jones led the Tigers to a nine-win season. He was named Second Team All-SEC for his play.
Following the season, Jones declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a day two pick.
While he needs to add some strength, Jones Jr. has a nice frame for an NFL offensive tackle. He looks like he can add to his 6-foot-4 and 312-pound frame. With his solid frame, Jones Jr. has long arms for his height. He uses his length well, which can neutralize the defenders he is going up against.
Jones Jr. moves well for an offensive tackle. He gets started with good quickness, which sets him up to win his reps. Jones Jr. can get to the second level to make blocks with good linear athleticism. He also has good lateral agility. Jones Jr. can block on the perimeter and can also mirror pass rushers well.
He was specifically good at pass blocking at the collegiate level. Jones used his lateral agility to stay in front of athletic pass rushers. He also used his length well to limit their ability to shed. Jones didn’t allow rushers to bend around the edge and also has a solid anchor. He had plenty of reps in pass pro at the collegiate level and held up well.
Jones can add more strength to his frame. He is 6-foot-4 and 312 pounds with long arms, but could add more weight to his body to more fit in with the prototype for the position. His strength is solid as is, with the ability to anchor well in pass pro, but he could be a more complete tackle with more strength.
He needs to work on his hand placement and timing. His hands are erratic and last consistency. He needs to get his hands on defenders earlier to help him win more of his matchups. Jones can also keep his hands inside to help impact defenders more. With decently strong hands, fixing the timing and placement of his hands could really help his game.
His awareness isn’t always there. Jones doesn’t always see where pressure is coming from and adjust to it accordingly. He can be late to recognize twists and blitzes, which puts him in scramble mode. He’ll have to work on his recognition and awareness to be trusted by an offense.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Draft Grade: Third Round Pick
