The 2025 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Derrick Harmon NFL Draft Profile.
Position: Defensive Tackle
School: Oregon
Size: 6-foot-4 and 1/2, 313 pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2024 stats: 45 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries
As a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, Harmon signed with Michigan State from Detroit. He didn’t play much in his first season, then totaled 30 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in 2022. The Spartans went 5-7 that season and Harmon transferred to Oregon following the season. In 2023, he tallied 40 total tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His play helped Oregon go 12-2 that season. For the 2024 season, Harmon had 45 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and five sacks. He led the Ducks to a 13-1 record, including a CFP appearance.
Following the CFP, Harmon declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick.
Harmon has great size for a defensive lineman at the NFL level. He stands at 6-foot-4 and 1/2 inches and 313 pounds, giving him a good size to play multiple positions on the defensive line. With his size comes good play strength, which he uses to his advantage. He also has great length with over 34-inch arms. Harmon uses his length well, helping him shed blocks.
His greatest asset might be his ability to take on blocks. He anchors well and can free up others to make plays. Harmon’s strength shows through, as he can play through blocks. In addition to beating just one person, Harmon can take on double teams and even beat them with his great strength.
For a player of his size at the interior defensive line position, he has surprising pass rush value. He has a good rip and spin move at his disposal. Harmon also uses his size well, as he can push the pocket and create havoc. He had five sacks last season and can develop into a better pass rusher at the NFL level.
Harmon’s biggest issue is that his pad level gets too high. He then loses his leverage and power, which can make him get washed out by blockers. Harmon is way more consistent and effective when he is able to keep his pad level down, but he has trouble maintaining the low pad level, so he’ll need some work.
He has ok athleticism, but his flexibility could be an issue. Harmon is a high-cut with tight hips. This makes it tough for him to bend around offensive linemen to get to the quarterback. It also makes it harder for him to change directions, which can limit his ability in pursuit of the ball.
His motor could be improved to help make him more effective. It is not as much his desire to make plays, but his feet stopping that holds him up. Harmon will let his feet stop, which makes it hard to get more production after his initial rush is stopped. If he keeps his feet moving, he will be more productive.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
Draft Grade: Second Round Pick
