Derion Kendrick 2022 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 26, 2022

The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Derion Kendrick 2022 NFL Draft Profile.

Derion Kendrick Background

Position: Cornerback

Size: 6-foot, 194 pounds

Class: Senior

2021 stats: 41 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, 3 passes defended

Kendrick spent time at Clemson and Georgia during his college career. Now, he is preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Out of high school, Kendrick was a five-star wide receiver who decided to stay in-state to play for Clemson. He was a wide receiver his first year on campus, but moved to cornerback for his sophomore season. He registered two interceptions and five passes defended. Clemson went 14-1 that season, losing to LSU in the National Championship. He returned for the 2020 season, tallying one interception and six passes defended. The Tigers went 10-2 and made the College Football Playoff. Following the season Kendrick was kicked off the Clemson team and he joined Georgia. Kendrick had four interceptions and three passes defended as the Bulldogs won the National Championship.

Following a career that saw him switch positions and schools, Kendrick is taking his talents to the next level He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Derion Kendrick Strengths

Kendrick has a solid build for a corner at 6-foot and 194 pounds. He should be able to match up with most receivers at that size. Kendrick may need to add a little more strength to his frame. He has solid arm length as well which was measured at 31 inches.

With some help from his past as a wide receiver, Kendrick has tremendous ball skills. He can track the ball well in the air and then goes and makes a play on it. Not only can he get pass break ups, but he also has solid hands to reel in interceptions.

He is a better zone corner than man to man. When he plays off the line of scrimmage, it gives him a chance to read and react. Kendrick uses his eyes well to read the quarterback and a receiver. He then can react decently well on the ball to make plays on it.

Derion Kendrick Weaknesses

Kendrick was kicked off the Clemson team for drug and gun charges. They were later expunged. Any NFL team that is interested in drafting Kendrick will need to do some extensive research on his background before making the selection.

In man-to-man coverage, Kendrick struggles to mirror and loses his fair share of matchups. He simply doesn’t have the movement skills to keep up with speedy receivers and ones that run good routes. The team that selects him should run more zone coverage than man to man.

He doesn’t show much aggressiveness to tackle or against the run. Kendrick struggles to shed blocks and then doesn’t always finish plays with a tackle. In order to limit more big plays, Kendrick needs to show more tenacity and form as a tackler.

Projected Draft Range: Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick

The only weakness he has is YouTube channels and the media saying things. Great kid. He will be a treasure to a NFL team that draft him.
